Extraction
Dentist in Carol Stream
Third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth, are the last set of permanent teeth to develop and are often the most likely to require removal. In some cases, other teeth may also need to be extracted if they cannot be restored with treatments such as fillings or root canal therapy. Our team carefully evaluates your situation to determine the best course of action for your oral health.
Tooth extractions may be recommended for:
- Impacted teeth that are unable to properly emerge
- Crowding or limited space in the mouth
- Severe decay or infection that cannot be treated
During your consultation, we will review your needs and discuss options to ensure your comfort, including sedation when appropriate.
Post-Extraction Care
After your procedure, it is important to follow proper care instructions to support healing. You will need someone to drive you home, and you should rest with your head elevated to help reduce bleeding. Gauze will be placed at the extraction site and should be changed as needed.
Use prescribed or recommended medications and ice packs to manage discomfort and swelling. For the first few days, stick to soft foods and avoid smoking or using straws, as these can interfere with healing. If bleeding persists beyond 24 hours or you have any concerns, please contact our office.
