Oral Cancer Screenings
Dentist in Carol Stream
Oral cancer is a serious condition that can develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Early detection is critical, as treatment is more effective and less invasive when concerns are identified sooner. As the disease progresses, it can become more complex and require more extensive care.
Drs. Lane and Lane recommend scheduling an oral cancer screening at least once a year as part of your routine dental care. During this screening, we carefully examine your lips, gums, tongue, throat, and surrounding tissues for any signs of abnormalities.
Be sure to let us know if you have experienced any of the following symptoms:
- Difficulty speaking, swallowing, or moving your jaw or tongue
- A persistent sore throat or feeling that something is stuck
- Lumps or swelling in or around the mouth
- Red or white patches inside the mouth
- Sores that do not heal
- Unexplained bleeding, ear pain, or sudden weight loss
If any of these symptoms last more than a week, we encourage you to contact our office promptly.
While anyone can develop oral cancer, certain factors may increase your risk, including tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, prolonged sun exposure, poor diet, and a family history of the disease.
Routine screenings are a simple but important step in protecting your health. Contact Lane Dental to learn more or to schedule your appointment.
